Who K!lled Elizabeth Sullivan?
Liz went missing on October 14th, 2014. According to NBC 7 San Diego, she was last seen in the area of her home on October 13. Her last known form of communication with her loved ones was a text message received on that date.
San Diego police looked for Liz for two years before giving up the search. On October 6, 2016, however, her body was pulled from San Diego Bay. That day, Matthew was packing up to move to Maryland with his new girlfriend. Prosecutors have stated, as reported by NBC 7 San Diego, that this is not a coincidence.
Authorities needed a week to positively identify Liz’s deteriorated remains. The San Diego District Attorney’s Office was quoted as saying her body had been “hidden somewhere” before being transported to the bay.
According to NBC 7 San Diego’s coverage, Matthew was detained on January 31, 2018, outside of his house in Wyoming, Delaware, and extradited to San Diego, where he was then transferred to the George Bailey Correctional Center.
The trial of Matthew, who is accused of k!lling his wife, will begin on February 21, 2020.
Deputy District Attorney Jill Lindberg was quoted by Fox 23 News as saying that Matthew battered and stabbed Liz to dea†h in a bedroom in their San Diego home. According to her, he found out his wife was cheating on him and made plans to end their marriage.
NBC 7 San Diego reported that the murd*r weapon was located in the couple’s attic. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, prosecutors said that Matthew had frozen Liz’s body before disposing of her in the bay.
According to People, Matthew has denied any involvement in the crime. According to NBC 7 San Diego, on March 12, 2021, 36-year-old Matthew was found guilty of Liz’s second-degree murd*r. A judge sentenced him to 16 years to life in jail.
