Sega likes to throw curveballs at their Sonic fans, so they made a new murder mystery game starring the Blue Blur and his pals available for free on Steam under the name The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.
The debut trailer, which presents the game as a visual novel, was released today by Sonic’s social media team, announcing the terrifying new game. Developers stated that “a plethora of wonderfully brilliant people who are just as passionate about Sonic as we are” had contributed to the game.
Amy Rose is having a murder mystery party for her friends on the Mirage Train in her birthday book, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. After Sonic is murdered, you take control of a new crew member on their first day on the train and must collaborate with familiar faces like Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, and others to uncover the truth about Sonic’s death.
Play minigames on the portable device, talk to a Conductor about his time on the Mirage Express, and question the host, among other things, about Sonic’s disappearance. You begin to wonder if Sonic’s death was intentional or if someone is out to get you as the game goes on.

Sega hinted at a new path for Sonic, and now here comes a strange game in that vein. On the eve of April 1st, nobody ever expected a new Sonic game to be a visual novel.
