The Night Agent Season 2 – Renewal Comes for the Action Packed Thriller!

The Night Agent Season 2

The Night Agent Season 2

The second season of The Night Agent is calling, so buckle up and make sure your phone is charged. The action-packed thriller The Night Agent has been renewed for a second 10-episode season just days after its March 23 premiere.
The Night Agent, based on a novel by Matthew Quirk, debuted at number one on the English TV List with 168.71 million hours viewed, making it the most-watched title of the week. The opening week ratings for Season 1 of the show were #3 overall, and it made the Top 10 in 93 countries.
Creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan said in a statement celebrating the renewal-

“The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world.”

“To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew, and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans.”

Ryan, fortunately for Peter Sutherland’s legion of fans, has some ideas about where his hero could go from here (Gabriel Basso). Ryan reveals to Tudum that Peter spends the entirety of Season 1 wondering, “What have I got myself into?”

Things are looking up for Peter in the final scene of the series. He’s on his way to his first assignment as a night agent, which will take him to work for Night Action, a secretive presidential initiative that looks into mysteries that regular intelligence agencies can’t solve.

After foiling a terrorist plot within the White House and preventing the death of President Michelle Travers, Peter was promoted to the position of night agent (Kari Matchett). Peter is accompanied on his high-flying (and spying) adventure by his girlfriend, Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), a former Silicon Valley CEO.

But what does Peter’s new job mean for the couple?

 Ryan says-

“That’s one of the big questions we’d love to answer in Season 2. What does Peter getting on this plane and going somewhere (presumably overseas to enter into some new wild adventure) mean, with Rose going back to California to try to pursue her Silicon Valley dreams again? We certainly have some initial ideas.”

Buchanan also speculates on what might lie in store for her main character. The Kiwi star acknowledges Rose’s desire to return to her IT career.

Buchanan says –

I really hope that she continues on her journey. The ending] leaves it really open-ended… I also want closure for her, I’m like, ‘This girl needs a lot of therapy after everything she’s been through.”

Two of the people that racked up those therapy costs have yet to be caught. Diane Farr (Hong Chau), the disgraced chief of staff to the president, survives a gunshot wound at the climax, but Gordon Wick (Ben Cotton), the wicked mogul, escapes punishment.

Ryan says of Wick’s escape-

“We liked the idea that this wasn’t so clean. That there is one person who, because of his resources and everything, is able to slink away. Maybe we’ll deal with him again in some way.”

Yet Farr is still very much in Peter’s sights. “Because he believes in due process,” Basso says, “he’s not going to be unhappy that she’s alive.” Nonetheless, Farr will be warier than Travers if he manages to evade punishment. Peter does not approve of a situation in which a traitor goes unpunished.

The stakes will be higher than ever in Season 2 now that Peter is working as a night agent at the President’s direct request.

Jimmy Howe, Vice President of Drama Series, Netflix, said in a statement-

“We’re proud to see The Night Agent deliver a breakout performance and become instantly embraced around the world.”

“Shawn Ryan has created a spy thriller sensation that viewers cannot get enough of, with a stellar cast featuring Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan and Hong Chau, and we’re here to bring them more of the action and suspense they love.”

Sony Pictures Television president Katherine Pope said-

We are pleased to see The Night Agent become an instant global success and can’t wait to continue telling this tale with our fantastic cast, creative leader, Shawn Ryan, and our wonderful partners at Netflix.”
