They also said that they would still be friends and that they would always remember the good times they had together, but that it was time for something new.

Jimmy already has a fantastic bachelor pad set up across town. More than anything, this makes us both so thrilled to see what the future has in store for us in terms of life and love.”

A spokeswoman for Jimmy Carter confirmed to the press that the former president had connected with a nursing student, age 21, on Tinder and that they had scheduled a drink date for later this week.

A Brief History of the Couple’s Life Before They Split Up

When Jimmy Carter was 3, he met the woman who would become his wife. Jimmy, who was three at the time, met Rosalynn Smith when she was just a baby. Jimmy’s mother, Lillian Carter, was a nurse, and she helped give birth to Rosalynn.

Ruth, Jimmy’s younger sister, became best friends with Rosalynn. Rosalynn said that Jimmy’s sister is partly to blame for their relationship in the 2020 book “What Makes a Marriage Last” by Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue.

Rosalynn said –

“I always said I fell in love with a photograph of him on her [Ruth’s] bedroom wall.”

She told the authors –

“Ruth and I plotted to get me together with [Jimmy]. She’d call and say ‘Come over! He’s here!’ and I’d go flying over to her house, but he’d be gone again.”

Jimmy finally asked Rosalynn out on a date when he was a student at the US Naval Academy. The future couple went on their first date before his last year at the Naval Academy and Rosalynn’s second year of college.

He told the authors of ‘What Makes a Marriage Last’ –

“I was cruising around with my sister Ruth and her boyfriend, just looking for a date, and I picked up Rosalynn in front of the Methodist church.”

After that, the two of them went to the movies. “I kissed her on that first date. I remember that vividly,” he said in the book. He also remembered telling his mother the next morning that he was going to marry Rosalynn.
