Police in Huntsville, Alabama has confirmed that a police officer has died and another is in critical condition after being wounded while responding to a gunsh0t call on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Huntsville Police Chief Kirk Giles said in a statement:
“This is a devastating loss for the our department, the Huntsville community and the State of Alabama. We send our heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family as they mourn their loved one who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
The Huntsville Police Department stated that two officers were sh0t by an offender at the scene after responding to a call at 4:45 p.m. on Governors Mansion Drive. The offender had reportedly barricaded himself inside an apartment.

The agency reported that the suspect was caught at 6:20 p.m. and taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. According to the HPD, the officers were transported to Huntsville Hospital.
According to the agency, the second officer has undergone emergency surgery but is still in critical condition. The chief added:
“As we grieve with our fallen officer’s family, we have another officer fighting for his life, Please keep all our officers and the entire department in your prayers.”
When the police came, they found a female victim of a sh00ting. A female perpetrator and victim are at the hospital receiving treatment, police confirmed later. There was a strong police presence, so the HPD asked locals to stay away and blocked off access to the area.
Earlier road closures have been lifted. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said:
“This is a painful night for the City of Huntsville and for our police family, We are heartbroken. Words cannot express our loss. We have been overwhelmed by the show of love and support from our community and we stand united with our police officers and their families in this tragic moment.”
