A sh00ter who k!lled three 9-year-old pupils and three @duIts at a private Christian primary school in Nashville Monday, March 27, 2023, had maps of the school.
Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old ex-student was named by police as the gunman and the incident was described as a targeted sh00ting. Hale was sh0t and k!lled by police during the @ttack, which was the deadliest school sh00ting in nearly a year.
Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake stated at a press conference that Hale had entered the Covenant School with three firearms through an unlocked side door and opened fire. Authorities estimate that the entire @ttack took place within 14 minutes.
Police spokesman Don Aaron said that they received the first call about the sh00ting at 10:13 a.m. and that the sh00ter was dead by 10:27 a.m. He explained that because the school was privately run by a church, no city officer was assigned to provide security.
According to the police, Hale fired multiple sh0ts on both floors of the school. A five-member team of police officers heard the gunfire, went to the second floor and fatally sh0t the suspect, Aaron said.
Authorities found detailed plans prepared by Hale of the school including surveillance and entry locations, as Drake put it after the incident. Drake said:
“We some writings that we’re going over that pertain to this day, the actual incident. We have a map drawn out of how this was all going to take place.”
According to Drake, the investigation revealed that the sh00ter may have considered a different target but ultimately decided against it because of the too much security at the intended location. He said that Nashville was the location.
Hale has been referred to as the female sh00ter by police and at a press conference later that day, officers revealed that Hale was transgend*r. A representative told CNN that Hale had used male pronouns in an online profile.
Drake stated that police have reason to believe that Hale legally got at least two of the guns. There were three firearms discovered, including an AR-style rifle, an AR-style pistol and a handgun.
Authorities are investigating a motive and have a theory but are continuing to explore the sh00ter’s house and have met with the suspect’s father, Drake said.
Hale graduated from Nossi College of Art & Design in Nashville last year, the head of the school confirmed to CNN and according to reports, it is indicated Hale works as a freelance graphic designer and a part-time grocery shopper.
