According to reports, the 911 dispatch center in Germantown, Tennessee got a call from Wright’s cell phone in the wee hours of July 19 after his body was discovered on July 28 in a forested area on Callis-Cutoff Road just west of Hacks Cross Road.

The murd*r weapon, which was discovered in a lake in Walnut, Mississippi on November 9, 2017, is thought to have been used in the killing of Wright.

Billy R. Turner, a gardener and deacon of Collierville’s Mt. Olive No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church was indicted on first-degree murd*r charges and jailed on a $1 million bond on December 5, 2017.

According to reports, Wright’s ex-wife Sherra Wright-Robinson was arrested on murd*r charges on December 15 in Riverside, California. Wright-Robinson used to attend the congregation where Turner preached.

His murd*r went unresolved for seven years, making it a high-profile unsolved case for the Memphis Police Department. According to Deborah Marion, Wright’s mother, a police official told her that Wright-Robinson would be charged with first-degree murd*r, the same charge that Turner was given.

Marion has stated her belief that Lorenzen Wright’s $1 million life insurance policy was the driving force behind her daughter-in-action laws. Wright-Robinson revealed that she asked investigators early on if she was a suspect in a piece published in The Commercial Appeal in 2015.

She continued:

“They was like, no, you know. That wasn’t really really that important of a person. If you want to quote them, they’ll tell you that the suspect pool is huge and that they have no actual leads.”

When Memphis police investigated her home on August 1, 2010, they found some burnt metal and a letter addressed to Lorenzen Wright and her, but they could not explain the significance of the items at the time.

Wright-Robinson settled a 2014 circuit court case about the $1 million in insurance money she spent on herself and her six children out of court.

Wright-Robinson was sentenced to 30 years in prison on July 25, 2019, after pleading guilty to aiding in the commission of first-degree murd*r in the sh00ting dea†h of Lorenzen Wright.
