Marcel Marceau the theatrical persona of French actor and mime artist Marcel Marceau (22 March 1923 – 22 September 2007). He called mime the “art of quiet” and spent almost 60 years as a professional performer around the world.
After spending much of World War II in hiding with the French Resistance as a member of the Jewish community, he made his public debut in front of 3,000 soldiers after Paris was liberated in August. After the war, he moved to Paris to study mime and theater.

Inspired by his Jewish ancestry, he decided to adopt the surname Marceau and eventually become the most well-known mime in history. The passing of Marcel Marceau at age 84 is a great loss.
How Did Marcel Marceau Die?
Marceau passed away on September 22, 2007, at the age of 84, in a retirement home in Cahors, France. Marceau’s funeral included performances of the sarabande from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 5 and the second movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 (which Marceau frequently used as background music for an excellent mime routine). Marceau was laid to rest at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.

How Many Times did Marcel Marceau Marry?
He initially wed Huguette Mallet, with whom he had sons Michel and Baptiste and later married Ella Jaroszewicz, with whom he had no children. Anne Sicco was his third wife; they had two daughters together, Camille and Aurélia.
Creator and professional clown Paulette Frankl wrote Marcel & Me: A Memoir of Love, Passion, and Illusion in August 2014, detailing her decades-long romance with Marceau.
