Sky Sports reports that Victoria’s minister for tourism and sport, Martin Pakula, has announced that a stand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground would soon be called “the SK Warne Stand” in tribute to the man widely regarded as the sport’s greatest bowler.

There is no better way to honor the best cricketer this state has produced than to rename the stand, Pakula added.

“That stand, however, it may be rebuilt, remodeled, or modified in the future, will always be known as the SK Warne Stand, since his legend will live on forever,”

In speaking about the decision to rename the stand, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting delivered a heartfelt homage to his close friend and teammate.
