Today, March 22, 2023, Marcel Marceau, better known as Blip the Clown was honored with a Google Doodle on his 100th birthday. The animated figure of Marcel Marceau seen on the Google Doodle had his trademark striped shirt and white face and expressed emotion silently.
The grey backdrop added visual appeal to the pantomime film which included an eerie likeness to the artist. David Papp shared a Tweet on his official Twitter account which showed the 100th birthday of Marcel Marceau.

Famous for his portrayal of “Bip the Clown,” Marcel Marceau was born on 22 March 1923 and di*d on 22 September 2007. He called mime the “art of quiet” and spent almost 60 years as a professional performer around the world.
After spending most of World War II in hiding with the French Resistance as a member of the Jewish community, he gave his first major performance to 3,000 troops after Paris was liberated in August. After the war, he moved to Paris to study mime and theater.
The Journey of Mime Artist “Marcel Marceau”
Marceau first saw a movie when he was a kid and ever since then, he’s wanted to be a big star in silent films. The young artist would often perform for his buddies by mimicking well-known celebrities and comedians. Not only that but later in life he would use his talents as a silent actor to aid in the escape of Jewish children from Vichy France.
Marceau made three such expeditions during World War II, freeing at least 70 children. After World War II ended, Marceau attended the Sarah Bernhardt Theatre’s Academy of Dramatic Art in Paris to study dramatic acting and mime.
The first appearance of his iconic figure, Bip the Clown, was in 1947. There was a mental picture of him as a tragicomic figure with a striped shirt, white face paint and a worn-out beflowered hat. Google claims that Bip’s behaviors spoke volumes about the breadth of human emotions and that he “explored” them all.
Eventually, in an effort to perfect the art of silence, he established the world’s first and only pantomime company, the Compagnie de Mime Marcel Marceau. The mime also toured the globe exposing people to mime for the first time.
Due to his many film and TV roles, he would be instantly recognizable to millions. The performance of Scrooge in A Christmas Carol which he gave in 1973, garnered him an Emmy for Best Specialty Act in 1956 for his appearance on the Max Liebman Show of Shows.
Famous roles include a silent one in the film Shanks and 17 speaking ones in the film First Class. The artist Marceau directed a mime drama and wrote two books for children in addition to his acting career, which garnered him many fans.
