Upon learning that his wife had been shot in the chest in the wee hours of August 19, 2015, Christopher Kruse called 911. Kruse said he heard the gunshot as they were resting in their Brewster, Minnesota, home.

Kruse called the police after making sure his daughter was okay in another room. According to Kruse, the mysterious visitor entered the home through the rear entrance. An autopsy performed by Jan determined that prior to her death, Pigman-Kruse was certainly awake but not involved in any violent altercation.

Who was Jan Kruse?

On September 24th, 1974, Jan Pigman-Kruse was born in Worthington, Minnesota. Pigman-Kruse earned an associate’s degree from Worthington Community College. January wed Christopher Kruse on October 7, 1995. Bailey Kruse is the name of the daughter they share.

Jan’s obituary mentioned that she had a passion for gardening, quilting, and traveling. The age she died at was 40.

Chris Kruse was charged with the first-degree, premeditated murder of his wife in March 2019. Two shells from Kruse’s 12-gauge shotgun were discovered at the site.

In spite of Kruse’s claims that an intruder broke in and killed his wife, he took no steps to beef up security in the days that followed.

After deliberating for 12 hours, the jury announced their not-guilty verdict against Kruse on February 13, 2020. The probe has concluded at this point.

In 2020, a two-hour program on NBC’s Dateline about Jan’s death was shown under the title Far From Spider Lake.
