More information about Moff Gideon’s demise has been disclosed in Season 3 of The Mandalorian (played by Giancarlo Esposito). As shown in the second season finale of The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon was captured by the New Republic after being defeated by Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).
Although the Armorer was doubtful, Din Djarin was certain that Gideon would be executed for his crimes and leadership of the Imperial Remnant. She never explained why this was the case, but it’s possible she assumed someone with Gideon’s resourcefulness would always prevail.
Further clues about the location of the Imperial leader are provided in the third episode of The Mandalorian’s third season, which may also lay the groundwork for Moff Gideon’s eventual return to the Mandalorian era.
Dr. Pershing, played by Omid Abtahi, played a significant role in the episode since he participated in the New Republic’s amnesty program for former Imperials who resigned and wished to live peacefully in this new period. Pershing gets together with the other Imperials who are taking advantage of the amnesty scheme to drink and talk about what will happen to Moff Gideon.
As of Season 3 of The Mandalorian, Moff Gideon’s whereabouts remain unknown
Gideon was taken into custody by the New Republic, although his whereabouts after that remains unclear. The two former Imperials disagree on whether or not Gideon was subjected to a Mind Flayer; one thinks Gideon escaped while on his way to his war tribunal, while the other thinks the escape was only a cover tale.
The Empire employed this device to brutally erase memories of their targets, including potentially Leia during questioning. Even if the Mind Flayer was just a figment of wartime propaganda, this discussion strongly suggests otherwise.
By the end of the episode, the New Republic has adopted a supposedly more humanitarian variant. However, Gideon’s official status in The Mandalorian season 3 has not yet been announced, therefore his involvement remains uncertain. This leaves the possibility open that Gideon fled and was behind the attacks on Bo-Katan and Din Djarin by TIE Interceptors and Bombers.

The Possible Role of Imperial Agents in Moff Gideon’s Mind-Flayed Assassination
A Mind Flayer experiment may have been performed on Gideon, and its probable Imperial agents were behind the whole thing. The third episode of season 3 of The Mandalorian concluded with Dr. Pershing being misled into undergoing a Mind Flayer, most likely to erase his memory of Palpatine’s covert cloning operations. Moff Gideon was a viable candidate for the same treatment, and for the same reason.
While not impossible, Gideon’s return to The Mandalorian in season 3 is by far the most likely scenario. He is too important to the resurgent Imperial Remnant, and he would have informed the Republic wants, thus he probably won’t be granted amnesty.
The other possibility is that Moff Gideon has evaded capture and is actively plotting his retribution against the Mandalorians while doing everything he can to keep the Empire together. It would be a shame to see Esposito’s fantastic performance go to waste if his character, Moff Gideon, were to be written out of the tale. It’s obvious that Moff Gideon has a past with Mando’s ally, Bo-Katan Kryze, and it would be interesting to watch the two battle head-to-head.
