As of Thursday, March 16, 2023, the Army’s Criminal Investigation Directorate was still probing into the soldier’s death, the details of which had not been made public. Lt. Col. Patrick Sullivan, commander of the 91st Engineer Battalion said:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of PV2 Ana Basalduaruiz and we extend our sympathies to her father, mother and her sister. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. She was an exceptional teammate that will truly be missed.”

Fort Hood has been the scene of dozens of unsettling incidents over the past few years, including the death of 20-year-old Spc. Vanessa Guillen, which remains unexplained.

Vanessa’s sister, Mayra Guillen, tweeted on Thursday, March 16, 2023 that she had learned about Balsaduaruiz’s death and intended to contact the family.
