The TV series “Willow,” which is based on and expands upon Ron Howard’s 1988 fantasy adventure film, premiered on Disney+ in November of last year, ushering in a brand new era of adventure. This afternoon, we found out that Disney+ has axed “Willow.” Probably not enough people watched the first season to make it financially viable to produce a second.
According to Deadline, “Willow,” which picks up years after the events of the film, was highly received by critics, scoring 83% on Rotten Tomatoes despite failing to have the zeitgeist cultural influence of the original. Although the cancellation, Willow is still a valuable intellectual property in the Lucasfilm portfolio and could be revived in the future.
