On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the age of 63, the popular children’s novelist passed away. On August 25, 1959, in Ridgefield, Connecticut, Ian Falconer entered the world. He went to the Cambridge School of Weston in Massachusetts for high school after growing up in Connecticut.

Agent and lawyer Conrad Rippy told The New York Times that Falconer died of kidney failure. In 2000, Mr. Falconer struck children’s publishing gold with “Olivia” which went on to win a Caldecott Honor and spend 107 weeks on The New York Times best-seller list for children’s picture books.
With simple black and white and red illustrations, he introduced his little heroine. On the first page of the book titled “40 Extremely Loud Songs,” a cartoon piglet was depicted singing the words “This is Olivia.” He excels at a wide variety of skills.

He then attended New York University for two years of art history study before transferring to the nearby Parsons School of Design to concentrate on painting.
After moving to California, Falconer enrolled in the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. Then, he entered the field of stage design. He worked in the theatre industry, designing both costumes and sets. Falconer maintained his involvement in stage design after moving to New York. Yet, he also started a career as an illustrator, designing several covers for The New Yorker.
