On Thursday, former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick gave an interview to CBS’ Adriana Diaz, during which he claimed that his White adoptive parents had taught him to be racist.
“I know my parents loved me, but there were still very problematic things that I went through,” the 35-year-old said.
“I think it was important to show that, no, this can happen in your home, and how you move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is being perpetuated.”
Kaepernick stated his mother told him he looked like a “little thug” when he wore cornrows as a kid.
For example, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback said, “They become situations where it’s like, ‘How do I manage this issue now?‘” It’s also a big reason why I’m rocking the long-hair look right now.
A sequence from 2021’s “Colin in Black and White,” a Netflix show that looks back on Kaepernick’s youth, depicts the time his mother called him a “thug” because of their disapproval of his hairstyle.

The book is named “Colin Kaepernick: Changing the Game,” and it is described as “a graphic novel memoir recounting his high school years before he hit the spotlight of professional athletics” in a news release by the Scholastic publishing organization. Eve Ewing contributed to the writing of this.
Kaepernick also expressed a continued interest in professional football in the same interview.
As a result of the commotion he caused as a San Francisco 49er by kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice in 2016, he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016.
