The death of Tom Sizemore, a veteran actor, at age 61, has been reported. On the morning of February 19th, Sizemore was “discovered unconscious after suffering a brain aneurysm following a stroke at his Los Angeles home,” as reported by Rolling Stone.

His family decided over the weekend to “take him from life support,” and he “went away quietly in his sleep” after being kept alive on a ventilator for the past two weeks.

Despite being unfairly labeled as “troubled” throughout his career (he suffered from long-term drug abuse and served seven months in prison in 2003 for domestic abuse charges), actor Tom Sizemore was one of the most recognizable faces of the ’90s. He stole the show in films as diverse as Heat, True Romance, and Saving Private Ryan.

It’s impossible for me to forget his “extremely upset covert agent” performance in Point Break. Do you think I like these clothes?! I still yell that at the world every time I have to put on a tie. Surprisingly, he appears for all of a minute in the film.

Point Break is a two-hour-long movie. I’m going on the record as stating it’s one of his most memorable turns onstage. To put it another way, that’s the sort of thing Tom Sizemore would do to a film.

Given that you’re on a gaming website, you’re probably already aware that Sizemore was also well-known for his part as Sonny Forelli in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Sizemore plays the first song of the game. You won’t even get a good look at his face, and yet he’s responsible for setting the mood for the entire game, and he does a fantastic job. It’s good even when you can see he’s reading from a script and doesn’t understand the situation or what’s going to happen next.

Here is some behind-the-scenes footage of the game’s voice cast—and man, what a cast—in which Sizemore has a little role:

Grand Theft Auto creators Rockstar Studios released a statement after Sizemore’s death, saying that the actor’s “effortless cool and superb character work” had been “an inspiration to all of us” even before Vice City.
