David Lindley Obituary Details

David Lindley, a well-known musician and songwriter from Claremont, passed away on 3 March. After apparently being sick for months, Lindley passed away. He was 78.

Lindley, who has been making music since the 1960s, was a sought-after session musician thanks to his proficiency on stringed instruments like the fiddle and guitar, which made him an ideal partner for artists such as Jackson Browne, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Toto, Rod Stewart and Joe Walsh.

“The loss of David Lindley is a huge one,” musician Jason Isbell posted on Twitter. My music would have a very different sound if it weren’t for him. From the moment I heard him play, I was completely captivated. The guy was a real giant.

Graham Nash also paid tribute to Lindley on Friday, via a tweet. One of the most talented artists of all time, according to Nash. David was “very versatile and expressive” on “pretty much any instrument you put in front of him.”

Lindley was a regular member of The Section, a group of session musicians that helped define the sound of soft rock in the ’70s, and he spent a lot of time in the studio with them. David Crosby, who hired Lindley in 1975, gushed about him and the band’s creativity in 2013. Never did you have to instruct them what to play. You must have given them a song and then gotten the hell out of the way.

Listening to music would help me figure out what elements were most effective. The music serves as the focal point. Lindley in 2010 that if a Jackson song was about a deceased buddy, the band would give a fitting tribute. The middle of “Song for Adam” is not the place for a Chuck Berry solo. Even though a Chuck Berry solo is fantastic, not at this time.

Lindley’s natural talent and mischievous personality set him apart from the other session musicians. The musician spent most of the 1980s as one of rock and roll’s legendary session players after playing in Browne’s band. El Rayo-X, an album by Lindley, was produced by Browne in 1983.

Lindley told a story about their first meeting in which Browne was performing and Lindley decided to sit in on fiddle. That was the first step in the process. The way it functioned was pleasing to him. After that, I moved to England to work with Terry Reid.

After the release of the debut album, Jackson visited London, and we played a few shows for him. In Cambridge, one of my close friends owned a nightclub. It was great to play in the club setting. So then it was, “Let’s do a band thing!” The thought crossed my mind, “That could be entertaining.”
