Blade Icewood was a major figure in the late ’90s and ’00s Detroit underground rap scene. The American rapper was a household name in Detroit and its surrounding areas. In the rap group Street Lordz, he was a featured member from Detroit.

On September 20, 2004, Blade Icewood was shooted in his home in the Detroit suburb of Oak Park, Michigan. The gunman used an AK-47 assault rifle to fire seven shots at him. Afterward, Icewood’s blade rendered him unable to move.

After the incident, Icewood was paralyzed from the chest down and he had to start using a wheelchair.

What was Blade Icewood’s Cause of Death?

Icewood was shot on April 19, 2005, at a car wash on the west side of Detroit at the intersection of West 7 Mile Road and Faust Street. An assailant pulled up next to his Range Rover and pumped 17 bullets into the passenger side, killing Icewood.

Detroit Griot said: “Blade Icewood was sitting in a wheelchair inside his silver Range Rover when a gunman killed him”.

His assassination took place less than a mile from the site of a nonviolence rally he had organized the year before. A record label named after him, Icewood Entertainment was established by his loved ones after his passing. Larry Joe Davidson was given a life sentence for the murder of Icewood.

There was an immediate influx of law enforcement and mourners to the area after the news of the rapper’s death spread. At least a few of the dozens of onlookers who had gathered there were seen crying and hugging one another.
