Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez and Kylie Jenner’s “Mean Girl” Drama Explained!

The internet is full of rumors about the drama between Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez, and Kylie Jenner. People think the “mean girl” drama has something to do with Gomez’s recent decision to stop using social media.

Bieber and Gomez have been the focus of internet drama for a long time because they are both dating Justin Bieber. In October, they took a picture together to put an end to rumors that they were fighting.

Early in January, photos taken by paparazzi of the 30-year-old singer and actress in a swimsuit while she was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, were used to make fun of her body.

Soon after, Hailey Bieber shared a TikTok of herself, Kendall Jenner, and Justine Skye lip-syncing to audio that said –

“I’m not saying she deserves it, but I’m saying God’s timing is always right.”

Some people thought that the girls were making fun of Gomez. Since then, Bieber has taken down the video, but it has been put back online several times.

When Rivet Soro reposted the TikTok on January 6, she told viewers she was trying to figure out if the video was “innocent” or meant to send “a message to someone.”

Users said that screenshots they shared showed Gomez commenting on the video. The comment apparently read –

“It’s okay! I don’t let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone!” 

Screenshots also show a comment from Bieber as well that said –

“I never comment on this type of thing but we were just having a girls night and did a random TikTok sound for fun. It’s not directed at anyone.”

Gomez, who has talked in public about having lupus and being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, felt the need to talk about her weight gain earlier this month.

During a February 16 TikTok Live, she told people that her weight changes depending on the medicines she takes. (The Live is no longer available on the app, but users have uploaded footage of it again.)

Gomez said –

“We have days where maybe we feel like shit, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself.”

“My medications are important, and I believe they are what helps me.”

Gomez told viewers that she was “not a model,” adding, “I think they’re awesome, mind you, I’m just definitely not that.”

Gomez, who now has 383 million Instagram followers, overtook Kylie Jenner, who had 380 million followers, as the most followed woman on Instagram on Thursday.

Then, this week, Gomez posted a series of funny photos and videos on social media, joking with her fans that she had “accidentally laminated my brows too much.”

Shortly after that, Jenner posted two mysterious photos to her Instagram story that fans think were meant to make Gomez feel bad. First, there was a selfie with the words “This was an accident?” written over her eyebrows. Then Jenner posted a screenshot of a FaceTime call with Bieber in which the two of them zoom in on their eyebrows.

A lot of TikTok users talked about the rumors and called it “mean girl” and “childish” behavior. One of the most popular comments on a TikTok video about the situation said –

“It’s not a coincidence anymore.”

Jenner responded to a February 22 TikTok that accused her of “shading” Selena Gomez, saying that wasn’t her intention. Gomez then spoke up and tried to calm down her fans. Jenner wrote –

“This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever and I didn’t see her eyebrow posts! You guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly.”

Gomez responded to Jenner’s writing –

“Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”

But in the last few days, Gomez said things on TikToks that fans took to mean she was no longer calm and was now fighting back.

On Thursday, Gomez commented beneath a TikTok of resurfaced old footage of Beiber sticking out her tongue when Taylor Swift’s album was mentioned.

She wrote, defending her fellow songstress –

“So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game.”

Gomez also wrote “I love you” under a video from Thursday in which a TikToker defended her amid all the rumors and called Bieber and Jenner “nepo babies,” “mean girls,” and “bitches,” as Insider reported.

Even though it seems like the three stars are trying to keep any fights between them quiet, the reactions online have reached a fever pitch. Some users are also saying that Gomez is adding to the drama, but many are quick to defend the singer. By following and unfollowing their accounts, people are taking sides.

Gomez’s TikTok and Instagram accounts have grown by a lot. A commenter wrote –

“Just because of this I went and followed Selena on IG even though I never go on there.”

Some people are even tagging Gomez’s Rare Beauty cosmetics in Bieber’s TikTok videos. Gomez said in a TikTok Live that she needs a break from social media because it is full of rumors and things she thinks are slights. She said –

“I’m so blessed. I have the best friends, the best fans in the whole world, and I just couldn’t be happier. I’m good.”

“I love who I am. And, yeah. I’m gonna be taking a second from social media ’cause it’s… this is a little silly. I’m 30. I’m too old for this.”

Gomez has added “(taking a break from social)” to the end of her most recent Instagram post. Then, on Thursday, she turned off her TikTok account, but it is now back online.
