Police are looking into a shooting that happened late Saturday afternoon in the Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul. Two men were killed and several other people were hurt.

Around 5:15 p.m., five people were shot in an apartment building for seniors on the 500 block of North Dale Street near University Avenue, according to the St. Paul Police Department.

Police say that one man is in critical condition, one woman is stable, and another woman has injuries that are not life-threatening.

After a celebration of life in the building’s community room, the shooting happened in the parking lot of Kings Crossing by Episcopal Homes, an apartment building for low-income seniors 62 and older.

Joann Chillers lives in the apartment above the community room. She is 79 years old. Chillers said –

“It’s it’s normally a quiet and secure building.”

She told that she heard people arguing at the party as she was leaving to go to the store. She said –

“I came downstairs and it was so loud. Like a couple hundred people up in there and I’ve never seen it that rowdy before.”

After an hour, she got home to find a crime scene and couldn’t get to her parking spot.

As the number of mass shootings rises, you can learn more about the most recent ones via our coverage:

This is the second shooting in the last two days in St. Paul. Three teenage boys were hurt in a drive-by shooting on Friday night.

They were at a funeral reception for a 15-year-old boy who had been stabbed to death earlier this month at a St. Paul high school.

Gov. Tim Walz tweeted about the incidents saying –

“The gun violence in St. Paul this weekend is unacceptable. I’m committed to increasing public safety funding, getting illegal guns off the streets, and addressing gang activity to curb the cycle of violence.”

This is the fourth and fifth murder of the year in St. Paul. No arrests have been made. Police say they don’t think the shooting happened for no reason, but they haven’t found out what it was about yet.
