NJ Electrician Kills Beautician Wife, Two Children and then Himself

Linden NJ Murder

Linden NJ Murder

On Sunday morning, an electrician is reported to have shot and killed his beautician wife and two children before turning the pistol on himself, according to police and witnesses in New Jersey. The identities and ages of the victims in the alleged slaying-suicide in Linden, Union County, have not been made public by authorities.

ABC7 reported that the couple’s youngster initially survived the shooting that took the lives of his mother and sister. Linden police stated in a statement that the boy was taken to University Hospital in Newark, but he died hours later.

The family moved into the neighborhood in 2007, and their new neighbors were stunned to hear of the incident.

“They’re a normal family. That’s why it’s impossible to believe,” Angel Montanez, 56, told The Post. “They go camping every long weekend, with a trailer they hook up to their car. They recently renovated their kitchen and he invited me over to show it to me.”

As both father and son are electricians, Montanez says he and the dad would often talk shop. The families frequently shared rides to and from school with one another.

Regular topics of conversation included “insurance, finances, how the kids are graduating this year, the middle school prom,” as she put it. She “didn’t mention any issues” at all.

“She was telling me about insurance, expenses, how the kids are graduating this year, the middle school prom — regular stuff you talk about,” she said. “She didn’t say anything about any problems.”

Digna Alvarez, a 76-year-old neighbor, said she never heard any fights from the house and that the father was always helpful and pleasant to talk to.

After he got home from work, we chatted with him every day. He worked as an electrician. We owe him a debt of gratitude for his assistance with the electrical wiring in our home. It’s a mystery to me what happened to him, she reflected. And the children—such lovely children. There were no arguments that I was aware of.

“Every day we talked to him when he came home from work. He was an electrician. He helped with the electricity in our house. He was a very nice person, I don’t know what happened to him,” she said. “And the kids, beautiful kids. I never heard any fights, nothing.”

Alvarez said to ABC that she and her sister-in-law were at home when they heard a child screaming. According to the neighbors, the father was an electrician, while the mother owned and operated a beauty parlor from their home. Neighbors reported that the pair was friendly and frequently walked their dog around the block.

There is no threat to the public, Linden Police spokesman Capt. Christopher Guenther told NJ.com after the slayings.

Alvarez admitted:

“I was in shock this morning.”

It’s the last thing you’d ever imagine — ever… Killing his family is completely unnecessary. I just don’t think he’d be capable of something like that.

A female neighbor said that the father occasionally sent the police to the house because he had been shooting his gun in the backyard. She firmly denied the possibility that her boyfriend would ever do such a thing. The father, according to Alvarez’s spouse, who said he spoke to him on Saturday, might have suffered a mental breakdown.

Linden Mayor Derek Armstead wrote in a Facebook post, “This morning, Linden suffered another tragedy”.
