Royse City Murder

The Royse City Police Department reports that a man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his estranged wife. The police have announced that Corey Wayne Griffin, Corey’s father, has been charged with first-degree murder for the killing of his 37-year-old daughter, Chelsie Loren Griffin.

Officers from the Royse City Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 2500 block of Perdenales Drive on Thursday, February 16 to conduct a welfare check. As soon as the police entered the house, they noticed traces of a battle, including broken glass and overturned furniture.

“We had someone report to 911 that they were on the phone with a female when the phone abruptly turned off and prior to it turning off the female was yelling,” said Royse City officer Ryan Curtis.

Police claimed they discovered Chelsea Griffin’s body in the kitchen during a search of the residence. The cause of death is currently under wraps. Divorce petitions and protection order requests were both made public in December. Corey Griffin, according to the police in Royse City, was apprehended just last week.

“We had filed on the individual for harassment. A warrant had been obtained and he had been arrested previously,” said Curtis.

At the beginning of February, Corey Griffin was arrested and sent to the Rockwall County Detention Center before being released on bond. According to the police, the judge agreed to a restriction stating that he could not return to the residence.
