The third Monday of February is set aside as a federal holiday to honour our nation’s presidents. According to History.com, Presidents Day was originally established in 1885 to honour George Washington but was later moved as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1971 to facilitate more three-day weekends for American employees.
