Gwen Shamblin Death

The controversial Remnant Fellowship Church that Gwen Shamblin Lara founded began a new era with her untimely death in a plane crash in 2021. The weight reduction guru’s daughter is part of the group’s new leadership after the organization was accused of being a cult and of exerting unhealthy levels of control over its members’ bodies and lives.

According to People, she and her brother Michael were expected to keep running the massive church. Elizabeth Hannah may be the pastor, but it appears she has helped. In fact, Hannah and her group of followers are now running the church. Her mom and her husband, Brandon Hannah, both perished in the same plane disaster.

According to the church’s website, the congregation’s needs are met through ministries and counsel provided by the church’s 120-person leadership team. We are healing and growing in our love for God as a congregation thanks in large part to Elizabeth Shamblin Hannah’s leadership and direction.

Michael, Hannah’s brother, is speculated to have divorced his wife and left the church after his mother’s death, therefore ending any possibility of him ever returning to a position of leadership.

At the time of her death, Gwen, 66, was instantly recognizable by her signature blond hair. In the year 1999, she established the Remnant Fellowship. Before establishing the Weigh Down Workshop, Gwen wrote The Weigh Down Diet (1997), in which she gave God the credit for her readers’ weight loss.

There was a Tweet shared by the Official account of the Daily Beast in which they mentioned the Cult of Gwen Shamblin’s death.

For Shamblin Lara’s public appearances, his adoring admirers would carry banners reading, “God has removed 86 pounds off me.” However, she quickly found herself under fire amid claims that she was leading a cult and misappropriating church funds.

Starving herself “for God,” according to one devotee, caused permanent damage to her kidneys. Researchers found that some church members reported being “emotionally, psychologically, and physically abused” by the congregation. On February 4, Jennifer Grey will star in a new Lifetime film about Gwen and the church.

Months after Gwen was killed in a plane crash in Tennessee, HBO released the controversial documentary The Way Down. She died while it was still in the making. It was summarised as follows: “Despite a carefully manicured image, Lara and the church soon fielded charges of emotional, psychological, and physical abuse, and exploitation for their claimed cult-like behaviors.”

The May 2021 crash of a Cessna into Percy Priest lake near Smyrna, Tennessee, claimed the lives of seven passengers, including the Christian guru.

Joe Lara, 58, her Tarzan co-star and second husband, was also in the group, and they may have been on their way to a Women Fighting For America event. According to data collected by air traffic controllers, the plane’s descent began shortly after takeoff. According to the church’s letter to the HBO program’s authors, it “categorically denies the ludicrous libelous allegations and accusations contained in this video.”
