Sarah Michelle Scooby-Doo Daphne-Velma Deleted Kissed Scene

Whatever happened to you, Scooby-Doo? According to Sarah Michelle Gellar, the original version of her live-action remake of the classic children’s animation that was released in 2002 was intended to be rated R.

“I think it was the reason I actually signed on to the movie,” Gellar told host Andy Cohen on Thursday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live. “It was less family-friendly to begin with.”

A caller had questioned if it was true that Gellar’s character, Daphne, had “a connection on the side” with Linda Cardellini’s Velma in the film’s original script, and that information had been revealed.

In the year 2020, author James Gunn made a similar comment on social media. In his original script, Velma was “explicitly gay,” but the studio “simply kept watering it down and washing it down, becoming uncertain (the version shot), then nothing (the published version), and ultimately having a boyfriend (the sequel),” he said. This is what he said at the time:

“The kiss between Daphne and Velma, as well as the profanity, jokes, and s*xual situations were all cut. The cleavage was a CGI addition.”

Daphne and Velma’s relationship

On WWHL Gellar answered (as per the report of Yahoo.com):

“I don’t know about a relationship on the side, but there was a steamy … I mean, I said it was steamy, but they probably didn’t think it was, hence it was cut. It was an actual kiss between Daphne and Velma that got cut.”

Actress Rosie Perez, who was on the show with Cohen, was also taken aback.

“I feel like the world wants to see it,” Gellar said. “But I don’t know where it is.”

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer star mentioned that there were other mature scenes in the pilot.

“There was a great line, too, where I remember, I’ll never forget, where we were having a fight — Daphne and Fred — and then I yell at him, ‘And that ascot makes you look gay!’ and I slam the door,” Gellar said. “And they cut that, too.”

She added, “There was also this implication about Fred being interested in both, you know, parties … and it all got cut.”
