Teen Wolf Season 5A focused on the disintegration of Scott’s pack, whereas season 5B has been about bringing the fragments back together one by one. The last scene is a strong reminder that nearly everyone from the original gang has returned. Now that we’ve sorted out our differences, we can all move on with the rescue of Lydia.
Lydia is not one to sit idly by while others come to her rescue, so she tries to do so herself. Finally, after fourteen episodes, the season five premiere makes sense. Can we say that the price was justified? A part of me wants to support both sides, but I can’t decide.
Though I can see why this scene was included in the pilot, as it is both interesting and captivating, I have not enjoyed the constant bouncing about in the time that has been a part of Lydia’s storyline. There has been a lot of muddling and not much clarity. Were we able to gain any additional insight into the situation by revisiting it with the benefit of hindsight?
In a word, no. While it’s clear from the first episode that she possesses banshee powers, her prediction that she and her friends are all going to die comes as a complete shock. The way forward is unclear at this time. The intriguing thing, which I didn’t see until I rewatched the first episode, is that Aiden is the reason Lydia’s escape fails.

Aiden explains to Lydia that she still has some work to do in terms of her treatment. Maybe he’s helping Dr. Valack develop her abilities in some way. Teen Wolf has a lot of characters to keep track of already, but I’m hoping they’ll find a way to work him in.
It’s true that Scott is the show’s protagonist, but Teen Wolf’s female characters are what make it so great. Malia has a substantial narrative in this episode that is equal in weight to the one featured for Lydia. As expected, Malia’s plan to kill her mother by working with Theo backfires.
Despite Theo’s obvious villainy, it’s always entertaining to see these two interact because of the unmistakable chemistry they share. Even if it means witnessing him persuade Malia to shoot herself in the face with a shotgun or wearing eye-gouging goggles.
The true drama, though, unfolds when Malia confronts her mother, the desert wolf. This isn’t your typical mother-daughter get-together because they’re both out to kill each other. There is some quite harsh talk. In response to you, I slaughtered them. This line sums up Malia’s desire to get rid of her mom perfectly. She hopes that taking retribution will help her overcome her feelings of guilt.

Theo turns to Deucalion for help after Learning the Beast is still Loose
In season 3, he was a particularly memorable antagonist thanks to his wonderfully nasty delivery of “I want his eyes on the tips of my claws, I want the eyes of Scott McCall.”
Having Deucalion around will help make the bad guys more intriguing, which is good because after 14 episodes the Dread Doctors haven’t said a word and are getting dull. Now that Scott’s pack is healthy again and the bad guys have been given a fresh infusion of blood, 5B is back on track.
