On December 2016 Liam McAtasney, a friend since childhood murdered Sarah Stern. A New Jersey jury found a man guilty of murdering his childhood friend and then throwing her body off a bridge for her inheritance money. Her body has yet to be found.
After two days of deliberation, the jury found Liam McAtasney guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy, desecration of human remains and hindering apprehension. McAtasney murdered 19-year-old aspiring artist Sarah Stern in her home in Neptune City, New Jersey in the fall of 2016.
How did McAtasney Murder His Childhood Friend Sarah Stern?
McAtasney drove Stern’s dead body to a Belmar bridge after a 30-minute strangulation. McAtasney said to a friend in a hidden video recording that he parked the car and started dragging Stern’s body toward the edge of the bridge when he heard three cars approaching.
He claimed that he returned the body to the car and waited for traffic to clear. McAtasney’s roommate and former prom date, Preston Taylor drove him home and assisted in the bridge toss. To make it appear as though she had committed suicide, they abandoned her car.
McAtasney claimed in the video that he had plotted the murder for over six months and that he was dissatisfied with the reward of $10,000 because he had expected a larger sum to be in a safe containing Stern’s inheritance from her mother’s estate.
