On Wednesday, a Detroit couple was charged with murder and other charges concerning the death of a 5-year-old kid. Assistant prosecutor Matthew Makepeace told a magistrate that Ethan Belcher and other children were beaten while living in squalor.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, “The alleged circumstances, in this case, are quite frightening.”
Valeria Hamilton and Shane Shelton, both 27, adopted Ethan as their son. After hearing the charges, which include the maltreatment of a 3-year-old boy, the judge ordered them to jail without bond.

On Sunday, Ethan was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Whether or not Hamilton and Shelton have attorneys available to comment on the charges was not immediately apparent.
Ashley Belcher, an aunt, told local Detroit television stations that the child protection agency had been informed of issues at the residence. (as per Detroit Free Press)
