In the days following his son’s death, fashion model Jeremy Ruehlemann’s father broke his silence regarding his son’s struggle with addiction. On Saturday, the 27-year-old was discovered comatose in the residence of a friend in Midtown Manhattan.
Achim Ruehlemann Sr. told the Daily Mail that he believes his son died from a drug overdose since he had been abusing prescription medicines for a long time.
“He did rehab and had tried to get off prescription medication,” Achim Ruehlemann told the outlet, adding that the painkiller Percocet was among the pills Jeremy couldn’t stop using. “Obviously, he was not successful.”
The family is not “100% sure exactly what happened to his son the distraught 59-year-old. They are waiting for the results of a toxicological test, he said.
“There was no desire to end his life, this was accidental,” Ruehlemann said. “Obviously, he had some issues with drug addiction, but he was very happy. He loved life. He was very vibrant, a wonderful soul, and a very giving guy.”
Touching on the heartfelt tributes his son received from the fashion world on social media, Achim Ruehlemann added, “I don’t know if there’s anybody who could say anything negative about him. It’s just a tragedy.”
The native New Jerseyan had walked the runway for Christian Siriano, John Varvatos, Superdry, Perry Ellis and many more. GQ and Playhouse Magazine were among the others that featured him.

The “Project Runway” contestant admitted, “I have never posted anything like this but to lose a buddy who was such a wonderful spirit is just incredibly painful.” Regardless of the circumstances, “this is for Jeremy, the most beautiful man who showed so much love to everyone he encountered.”
Siriano mourned the loss of his “muse” and offered his condolences to the model’s loved ones.
