Lin Brehmer, a Chicago radio personality and disc jockey, died on January 22, 2023. Brehmer hosted mornings on WXRT from 1991 to 2020 and middays from 2020 to 2022, when he left to undergo chemotherapy.

What was Lin Brehmer’s Cause of Death?

Legendary Chicago radio broadcaster, Lin Brehmer, died Sunday after a long battle with cancer. Brehmer spent several years on WXRT FM as a morning and subsequently lunchtime host.

WXRT wrote on Facebook that Brehmer had passed away, quoting a statement from the coroner:

“It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that we all lost our best friend. Lin Brehmer fought cancer as long as he could. He passed early this morning, peacefully, with his wife and son by his side.”

For a long time, he struggled with prostate cancer. In July of last year, he said the disease had spread and he would be taking time off of the air. In November and December, he came back for a short visit. Bremer dubbed himself “your best buddy in the whole world,” and listeners agreed!

The famous radio host and lifelong Chicago Cubs fan was honored with a sign outside Wrigley Field.

Brehmer was born in New York, New York on August 19, 1954. His LinkedIn page states that he attended Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, from 1972–1976, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in English. After that, in January of 1977, he started his career as a radio host and music director at WQBK-FM. He remained in this role until September 1984.
