Protesters in Atlanta shattered storefront windows and set fire to a police cruiser on Saturday. Activists had been protesting the Wednesday night shooting of one of their own by police during a raid to clear the site of a public safety training center they have dubbed “Cop City.”
A witness reported that the demonstration began peacefully but soon turned violent, with some protestors resorting to using fireworks, rocks, and hammers to break windows of nearby buildings.
The violence quickly subsided as police pressed in on the protesters and no one was hurt in the process. A photographer witnessed law enforcement officials placing handcuffs on a demonstrator who was holding a flag.

The protesters were upset about an incident that occurred on Wednesday when 26-year-old Manuel Teran was inside a tent and refused to leave after police gave “verbal demands.” A few protesters had been camped out there since last year in an effort to get their message across.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) claims Teran shot a state trooper and was killed by cops who returned fire.
Police said Teran had the handgun used in the shooting and on Friday the GBI released a photo of the weapon.
The Atlanta Police Foundation proposes to construct a $90 million project south of the city, but its opponents argue that doing so will destroy hundreds of acres of forest and severely harm the environment.
