Who is Keenan McCardell and How Did He Start His Coaching Career?

Keenan McCardell former wide receiver and coach played 17 seasons in NFL for many teams. He played for  Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Diego Chargers, and Houston Texans. Recently The New England Patriots requested to interview Keenan to hire him as a wide receiver. Do you know who Keenan McCardell is? Who is Keenan McCardell?

Keenan McCardell was born on 6 January 1970, to Arthur and Mattie McCardell. For his education, he attends Waltrip High School, in Houston, Texas. McCardell entered UNLV, where he select his career as a wide receiver in college football.

How Keenan McCardell Starts His Professional Career?

Washington Redskins chose Keenan from NFL Draft in 1991. But he never played any super bowl in Redskins dress, because he get injured in the beginning games and then he left the team after one season. In 1992, he join the Cleveland Browns, but here also his performance was low during the season. In 1993, the season he did his first touchdown. In his career with the Browns, he records 80 receptions for 1,133 yards and eight touchdowns. After four years in 1996, he signed a deal with $6 million with Jacksonville Jaguars.

How Did He Start His Coaching Career?

With Keenan’s performance with 85 catches for 1,129 yards and three touchdowns with Jimmy Smith, they were called “Thunder and Lightning” with McCardell as “Thunder.” After leaving the Browns he join Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002, in which they win Super Bowl XXXVII, against Oakland Raiders. Keenan became the main receiver after dealing another primary receiver Keyshawn Jonson to Dallas Cowboys for Joey Galloway.

Then Buccaneers trade him to San Diego Charges in the 2005 draft NFL. Here he is the second receiver with Antonio Gates with a score of 70 catches for 917 yards with nine touchdowns. In the same year fighting with Oakland Raiders, he creates a record in NFL history to make 800 receptions. In 2007, Huston Texans picked him but left in August 2007. In 2007, again he was signed by Washington Redskins and then he announced his retirement from playing format with 883 receptions.

When did Keenan McCardell Start His Coaching Career?

First, as a wide receiver coach, he was hired by the West Team for the 2010 East-West Shrine Game. From 2010 to 2012 he was hired by Washington Redskins. After he was fired from there Maryland Terrapins select him as a wide receiver with Randy Edsall. In 2017 he left the Terrapins team and was hired by Jacksonville Jaguars under the primary coach Doug Marrone with one more head coach Tom Coughlin. In 2021, Minnesota Vikings hired him including head coach Mike Zimmer to replace Andrew Janocko.

Recently news comes that the New England Patriots wanted to hire Keenan McCardell as an offensive coordinator. Actually, they wanted to replace Matt Patrica, but it is not confirmed yet whether they hired Keenan or not. How to change a game with the last offseason, McCardel is a live example of that.
