A viral video shows security asking a shirtless man to leave the mall before relenting and letting him stay. A man wearing a “Jesus Saves” t-shirt was confronted by security personnel at the Mall of America earlier this month and the footage of the incident has now gone viral.

A man wearing a bright yellow shirt reading “Jesus Saves” can be seen in the video which has been viewed over a million times and shared across numerous social media sites. The words “Jesus is the only way” are crossed out on the back of the shirt, which otherwise reads “coexist.”

A security guard speaking to the man is heard saying, “You can take the shirt off… or you can leave the mall. Those are your only options right now.”

After two minutes, the man finally inquired, “What is wrong with my t-shirt?”

“It’s a form of religious proselytizing. Given the private nature of the mall’s grounds, solicitation is strictly prohibited there “what the security guard had to say. An additional audio clip features the security guard informing the man that he can resume his shopping trip if he removes the blouse that has caused offense to others.

KARE 11 tried to contact the Mall of America for their take on the altercation, but they did not respond. MOA stated in a statement that the man who had been given a temporary trespass notice for solicitation was permitted to remain in the mall without having to change his clothing.

“On January 7, 2023, mall security contacted the patron seen in the video. A week ago, he was given a 24-hour trespass for trying to drum up business without permission. The visitor was able to stay at the Mall without having to change his shirt after a short conversation” An MOA statement read as follows.

Mall security prohibits “picketing, demonstrating, soliciting, protesting, petitioning,” as well as “loitering,” “participating in solicitation,” “blocking stores, corridors, skyways, fire escapes or escalators,” and “traveling in groups in such a way as to bother others.” MOA did not explain what the man had said or done to warrant the 24-hour trespass warning.
