French nun Sister Andre the world’s oldest person passed away on Tuesday in the city of Toulon in the south of France. She had endured two world wars, the 1918 influenza pandemic and the deadly Covid-19 virus. Her age was given as 118. A tweet from the city’s mayor Hubert Falco read, “It is with immense sadness and emotion that I learned tonight of the passing of the world’s oldest person #SisterAndre.”
According to the nun’s spokesman, David Tavella, she passed away on Tuesday at 2 a.m. local time and she was from the area around Toulon. “It’s very tragic but she wanted it to happen, she was eager to be reunited with her dear brother. According to Tavella for her it means freedom.”

What Kind of Person Was Sister Andre?
In a statement issued in April 2022, Guinness noted that Sister Andre born Lucile Randon on February 11, 1904 had devoted her entire life to religious service. She spent World War II tending to children and then another 28 years after that tending to orphans and the elderly at a hospital before deciding to devote her life to the Catholic faith as a nun.
According to the reports, she was also the oldest nun who ever lived. For her 118th birthday in 2022, the 18th French president in her lifetime, Emmanuel Macron wrote a personal note to the nun. In addition, the Catholic Church has had ten different Popes since she was born.

After Kane Tanaka, a Japanese woman and the previous holder of the title of the world’s oldest person passed away on April 19 at the ripe old age of 119, she officially surpassed her as the oldest person in the world. A French woman holds the record for the oldest person ever recorded. According to the Guinness World Records announcement, Jeanne Louise Calment was born on February 21, 1875 making her lifespan 122 years, 164 days.
