Devin Willock Death: The university confirmed in a statement that Devin Willock, a football player for Georgia and a recruiting team member, died in an automobile accident early on Sunday morning in Athens.

Willock, a redshirt sophomore offensive line starter from New Milford, New Jersey, started two games last year. Chandler LeCroy, a recruiting team member, was also killed, claims the university.

“The entire Georgia family is devastated by the tragic losses of football student-athlete Devin Willock and football staff member Chandler LeCroy,” the university statement said. “Two other members of the football program were injured in the accident. They are both in stable condition, and we will continue to monitor their status with medical personnel.

“Devin and Chandler were two special people who meant so much to the University of Georgia, our football program, and our athletic department. “We ask that everyone keep their families in their prayers during this difficult time.”

“We are all heartbroken and devastated with the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy,” Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. “Devin was an outstanding young man in every way. He was always smiling, was a great teammate, and was a joy to coach. Chandler was a valuable member of our football staff and brought a great attitude and energy daily. We grieve with their families for this tragic loss and will support them in every way possible.”

Greg Sankey, the commissioner of the SEC, and Bulldogs senior linebacker Nolan Smith responded to the news on Twitter. The single-vehicle collision, according to a statement from the Athens-Clarke County Police, happened on Sunday around 2:45 a.m. ET. According to police, a 2021 Ford Expedition exited the road on the outer lane of Barnett Shoals Road and collided with two power poles and several trees.

Willock, according to the police, died there. He was 20. LeCroy, who was driving, was injured while being taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, where she later passed away. A 26-year-old woman passenger suffered severe injuries, while a 21-year-old male passenger had only minor wounds.

Warren McClendon, a junior offensive lineman, was also involved in the collision and is in stable condition, sources informed ESPN on Sunday. McClendon, a resident of Brunswick, Georgia, declared his intention to participate in the NFL draft on Saturday. McClendon, an offensive tackle who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 300 pounds, started 13 games for the Bulldogs last year.

A parade and ceremony at Sanford Stadium were held to honor the Bulldogs’ back-to-back national championship victories before the accident. In the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday night in Los Angeles, Georgia defeated TCU 65-7.

“The UGA Athletic Association will work with our medical team as well as our mental health and performance personnel to ensure we are providing the best support possible for our staff and student-athletes who are processing this grief,” the university said in a statement. “We can provide no further comment at this time but ask that everyone continue to keep those involved in your prayers.”

6-foot-7, 335-pound Willock started at right guard in the Bulldogs’ triumphs over Tennessee and Kentucky. He participated in all 15 of the team’s games this past season. As a senior at Paramus Catholic High School in 2020, he was ranked by ESPN Recruiting as the 39th-best guard prospect in the nation and the 17th-best prospect in New Jersey.

According to her LinkedIn profile, LeCroy has been employed as a recruiting analyst at Georgia since May 2021. She had previously interned with the athletic organization as a learning specialist and sports marketing promotions. According to her LinkedIn profile, LeCroy, a native of Toccoa, Georgia, graduated from UGA with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in sports management and policy.
