After hearing that their contract had been renewed, the members of Sweet Magnolias Writers took to their official Twitter account to celebrate.
“We’re going back to Serenity, y’all! We are so thrilled to share we have a Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias. Can’t wait to welcome y’all home.”
When will Netflix Upload Sweet Magnolias Season 3 and Where is it now Filming?
In the United States, production on the new third season is once again taking place in Covington and Atlanta. The production crew began researching potential new locations at the beginning of June 2022. As Sheryl Anderson put it in an Instagram post:
“Thrilled to be plotting and planning Season 3, with friends, old and new!!!”
Joanna Garcia Swisher, the show’s lead, said on Instagram on July 1 that she had colored her hair again in preparation for her return in the upcoming third season.
Swisher wrote the following in his online post:
“‘Maddie’s’ lob is back Could only mean one thing… #sweetmagnoliasnetflix #season3”
The official Sweet Magnolias page announced on July 18 of that year that filming had commenced in July. The following caption accompanied their post:
“‘Shall we begin?’ So happy to be welcoming everyone home to Serenity for day one of filming Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias!”
There have been a number of posts indicating that the show’s frequent director, Norman Buckley, will be back behind the camera. Buckley is still involved with the show in another capacity: she is a co-executive producer.
On Instagram on September 3rd, 2022, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson said that they were halfway through filming and thanked a gelato vendor, writing:
“Many thanks to @dulceartisangelato for helping us celebrate Halfway Day!!! Hard to believe we’ve shot half of Season 3. Time flies when you’re working with people you love!!!”
A message from the Sweet Magnolias writers’ room also served as official confirmation that production had come to an end.

Anderson has uploaded a tonne of production stills on his Instagram throughout filming, including this one from the night of August 27th, which was shot on a basketball court.
Sweet Magnolias Season 3 is expected to premiere in Spring 2023, however, it could be delayed until Summer/Fall 2023 due to the show’s lengthy post-production process.
According to a press announcement dated October 2022, new episodes would premiere in the spring of 2023.
