Brian Tee Leave Chicago Med: The Chicago Medical Center’s spinning door keeps turning. Brian Tee, who plays Dr. Ethan Choi on the NBC medical drama, is reportedly leaving this season and in less than a month, according to Deadline.
On December 7, his final show, appropriately titled “Could Be The Start of Something New,” will premiere. Tee is one of the original cast members of the program; the other original cast members are Nick Gehlfuss, Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Marlyne Barrett. Tee’s departure occurs in the midst of a season that has seen a lot of change for both the One Chicago series and Dick Wolf’s TV projects as a whole.
Jesse Lee Soffer’s departure from Chicago P.D., which was announced three episodes into this season, garnered media attention. After just one cycle as Dr. Dylan Scott, Med cut Guy Lockard from the cast. Kelli Giddish is leaving Law & Order: SVU in the meantime. Who Was Dr. Ethan Choi on Chicago Med?

According to the Deadline piece, Brian Tee is quitting Chicago Med in order to spend more time with his family and work on other endeavors. In order to spend more time with his family, Tee has decided to leave the grind of the NBC series. His daughter Madelyn was only five months old when he began playing Dr. Choi.
Like many performers who spend years on a TV show, he can also expand his artistic horizons. The actor also emphasized how distinct Choi was from the more clichéd roles he had previously received, so it’s a bittersweet departure nonetheless. He explained to Deadline that “Ethan Choi symbolizes to me the first time I’ve genuinely played a protagonist in such a great way and he launched me into a different realm.”
Next, Nicole Kidman and Tee will co-star in the Amazon original series Expats. The program will make its Prime Video debut sometime in 2023. It was shot during Chicago Med Season 7, which saw Choi miss many episodes due to a back issue.
Will Brian Tee Return in Chicago Med Season 8?
Fans are already inquiring if Choi would return to Chicago Med even though Tee’s departure has only recently been confirmed. Wanting to see the character again is a normal reaction, especially on a show where the cast has seen numerous lineup changes over the course of the last two seasons.
The official intentions for Dr. Ethan Choi to appear on Chicago Med after his final episode airs are not yet known, though. But Brian Tee will be a director at Chicago Med once more. He will work behind the camera for Season 8, Episode 16, which is scheduled to premiere in January 2023, according to Deadline.

That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering how few of Med’s previous regulars have returned. Since his departure in the Season 5 opener, Dr. Connor Rhodes, played by Colin Donnell, has not been seen or discussed. Dr. Sarah Reese, portrayed by Rachel DiPillo, was only briefly mentioned after Season 4 began.
Yaya DaCosta stands out as an example; her April Sexton made a comeback in Season 8. But now that viewers are aware that Choi is departing, the news of her return makes sense; it’s likely that the producers invited April back as part of her ex-farewell.
