In 1986, she worked as a sports anchor and reporter for Nashville’s WSMV-TV. From 1988 to 1990, she worked as a sports anchor and reporter for Atlanta’s WAGA-TV. She also hosted a radio show on Atlanta’s V-103.
In February 1990, she became a sportscaster, a position she held until 2005. It was her catchphrase on SportsCenter: “Go on with your bad self!” In June of 1995, Roberts started working for ABC News as a featured reporter for Good Morning America. At the time her primary role at GMA was as a news anchor. Roberts’s rise to co-anchor of Good Morning America began in 2005. Early Life of Robin Roberts
Roberts’s birthplace is Tuskegee, Alabama. She was born in a small town in Mississippi called Pass Christian. She went to high school in Pass Christian, Mississippi and ended up graduating at the top of her class in 1979. They are the proud parents of Lucimarian (a former Tolliver) and Colonel Lawrence E. Roberts’s daughter.
Roberts attributed the development of the “three ‘D’s: Discipline, Determination and ‘De Lord’ to her parents in a 2006 address to the student body at Abilene Christian University. Sally-Ann is the oldest of four followed by Lawrence, Jr. (called Butch) and Dorothy. In the Second World War, her father served as a pilot for the Tuskegee Airmen.

This year, Roberts was honoured with the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. Alyssa Naeher, a member of the United States women’s national soccer team wore a jersey with Roberts’ name on the back during the team’s first match of March 2019.
