According to Sewell, one of the officers fired their weapon hitting the suspect in the shoulder. She reported that the suspect had been arrested. Sewell stated that the three injured police officers were transported to Bellevue.

Who is the suspect in this attack?
Law enforcement sources told that while the suspect’s motive is still unknown. They are not ruling out the possibility that he came to New York City specifically to attack police officers at the Times Square ball drop. Several law enforcement officials have confirmed that the suspect is 19-year-old Trevor Bickford from Wells, Maine. Sources say he arrived in New York on December 29 via Amtrak.
The sources said that federal and local law enforcement investigators are looking through the suspect’s online postings which show signs of recent extremist Islamic radicalization. There are no felony convictions on Bickford’s record. The man’s mother and aunt reportedly informed authorities in recent weeks of their fears that he was becoming increasingly radicalized by Islamist ideology.
Law enforcement officials have stated that the report has led to an investigation into the suspect by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. Together with the FBI, the NYPD’s counterterrorism unit is looking into the New Year’s Eve attack.
