Who is Tig: Mathilde O’Callaghan “Tig” Notaro is a multitalented American stand-up comedian, writer, radio contributor, and actress. Her best album Live and nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. Tig gets more controversies this year than others.

You all are aware that she stopped comedy performances onstage for nine months at the West Hollywood club Largo in August and published her two history books. “Everyone has the moment that brings them to the next level,” says Notaro. To know more about her life journey read the complete post.

How Tig Notaro Live His Life Before Fame?

Notaro, the daughter of Mathilde “Susie” O’Callaghan and Pat Notaro born on 24 March 1971, in Jackson, Mississippi. After some time her family moved to Texas. She has an older brother named Renaud Notaro, who worked on a radio talk show. “Tig” nickname is given by her brother when she is two years old. Her great-great-grandfather, John Fitzpatrick was manager of New Orleans from 1892 to 1896. She doesn’t like school as she stated during an interview.

Continuously three times failed in grades she was suspended from school. She likes to play guitar and drums, during her childhood. Notaro engaged her future wife Stephaine Allynne at In a World… movie set in 2015 first of January. Then they got married on 24 October 2015. They were blessed with two babies in 2016, with the help of a surrogate using Allynne’s eggs. 

From Where Did Tig Start Her Career Inspiration?

Eagerly music lover Notaro shifted to Denver, Colorado, to make her career in the music industry. There she becomes the manager of the Tignation Promotions band. She visits Los Angeles for promoting her band, where she performs as a comedian for the first time. There she start her comedy career with Comedy Central Presents then she appeared on The Sarah Silverman Program playing the character of a lesbian career.

In a very short time, she starts her writing career with Kyle Dunnigan. Later she host a podcast named Professor Blastoff with Kyle and David from 2011 to 2015. In 2011, she start her stand-up album releasing her first album Good One, and her second Live in 2012, unfortunately, she faced a problem with breast cancer.

In 2012, she performed on Conan, and the same year, she gave a live performance, which is shown in theaters. Several times she performed in Taylor Dayne’s voice but after each act, she stated, “Excuse me, I’m sorry to bother you, but I just have to tell you. I love your voice.”

In fact, once Dayne shares a stage with tig with the “I’ll Always Love You” song. She also appeared in Amy Schumer’s Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer. She performed as a lead star in Clown Service which is written by herself. She also wrote a documentary for Harper Collins titled I’m Just a Person. She also made a stand-up tour titled Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro.

In 2015, she appeared as lead cast, co write and produce a semi-autobiography tv pilot One Mississippi which premiered on Amazon Video. HBO released her first stand-up performance which is one hour titled Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted. In 2018 she played in Star Trek: Discovery as Chief Engineer Jett Reno of the U.S.S. Hiawatha. Netflix also released its second one-hour performance as a stand-up in 2018, titled Happy to Be There.

She replaced Chris D’Elia in the Army of the Dead, created by Zack Snyder. In her comedy career, she said: “I’m always going to do whatever I think is funniest. If something’s dark, I’ll do it. If it’s a sock puppet, if it’s a stool, I’ll do it. There’s no preconceived idea of who I think I might be now.” After she issued of cancer, she changed her comedy topic now she performs based on herself, not on others, like her childhood and real-life events.

How was Tig Notaro Diagnosed With Cancer?

Tig is suffering from cancer in her both breast since 2012. 3 August 2012, she comes to know about her disease, when she was performing a stage show in Los Angeles  “Is everybody having a good time? I have cancer,” she said. “I saw people grabbing their own faces in fear,” Notaro says.

“Other people were knee-slapping. Everyone was processing it in their own way, on their own time.”The next day her friend Louis C.K. gave an idea that releases her video but she denied it. Later convinced herself because this video can help someone. It was released with the title Live and released on iTunes.

She chooses to treat with chemotherapy with hormone-blocking. The New York Times described it: “She showed the audience her scars and then, through the force of her showmanship, made you forget that they were there. It was a powerful, even inspiring, statement about survival and recovery, and yet, it had the larky feel of a dare.” In 2017 she admit the hospital for surgery. 

Tig Notaro’s Life Journey

“My mom was a freethinking artist—she was wild and would do anything to get a laugh from me,” says Notaro. “She’d go in reverse through a drive-through so I could order from the window: ‘Hi, can I get a milkshake?’ ” She said she loved to climb trees in her backyard and Amelia Bedelia.“I liked how she took everything literally: when she got a note to draw the drapes, she’d set up an easel and actually draw the drapes,” she says.

“I failed eighth grade twice, and then they moved me up to ninth grade. Then I failed that and dropped out,” she says. “My teacher would hand me a test, and I’d grade it myself with an F, then put my head down on the desk.” 

Her first standup was in Los Angeles which is: “My name’s Tig. A lot of people have trouble understanding it, especially over the phone.

I was on this call with this guy, and he goes, ‘All right. I don’t feel comfortable calling you this, but I’ll see you tonight, Pig.’ I was like, ‘Oh, to tell you the truth, I don’t feel real comfortable with you calling me a pig, either, because my name’s Tig,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, that’s what I said, Pig,’ and I said, ‘No, it’s Tig with a T,’ and he said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, Tit,’ and eventually I said, ‘Yeah, that’s right. It’s Pig Tit.’ ” She smiles wryly. “Based on a true story.” then start to stand up in clubs for five nights a week.

“We were raised on hydraulics, and a guy in a diaper would come out, with props like a hula hoop or a fire extinguisher, and we’d have to make jokes about it,” says Kyle Dunnigan.“Tig has always gotten the most amount of laughs with the least amount of words,” says Silverman. 

Amy Schumer, her close friend, says, “Looking masculine and being gay, the challenges of the road are 20 times harder for Tig than other female comedians. People fear what they don’t understand.”

“I found myself in Texas, in my mom’s closet, picking out clothes for her to wear in her casket,” says Notaro. “I kept thinking how sad she would be if she knew I was there, in her closet, worried about my own death.” 

Processing her feelings through writing was the only way she knew to cope. Still, when she showed her material to Glass for consideration on This American Life, he didn’t think it was there yet and recommended that she try to work it out onstage instead.
