Having Jose Andres as a father can’t have been easy all the time, can it? The native Spaniard moves through life with a certain ease from house to restaurant to conference to set to the disaster zone. Surely his kids have had to share his time because he’s become a father figure to so many people around the world bringing food to the hungry wherever he goes.

The good side of Andres’s quarantine was getting to watch him in his natural habitat: in the kitchen preparing meals for his three daughters. Andres dancing and cooking with Carlota and Ines while singing off-key to Bastille’s “Pompeii” while his daughters look amused and embarrassed is not an emotion one often encounters in life let alone during a pandemic.

While the videos’ stated topic was domestic cooking, Andres and his kids really were peddling optimism and positivity in the wake of the pandemic’s earliest days. I hate to say it but the videos were contagious. Some enterprising TV producers obviously saw potential in the family dynamic between the Spanish chef and his American-born daughters to make a successful limited series.

Eventually after more than two years on December 27th, Discovery Plus will premiere the six-part series “Jose Andres and Family in Spain” which was made by London-based Nutopia in collaboration with Jose Andres Media.
