The plot revolves around Light’s attempts to use the Death Note to commit a global massacre of people he deems immoral and to create a crime-free society under the guise of a god-like vigilante named “Kira” as well as the efforts of an elite Japanese police task force led by the mysterious detective L to apprehend him.

Nippon Television aired a 37-episode anime television series adaptation of the manga from October 2006 to June 2007.
