Karen Bass was Sworn in as LA’s 43rd mayor on Sunday, she is the first woman who was sworn in as a mayor, setting a new record. Before her, Kamala Harris is the first woman to be sworn in as vice president at Los Angeles City Hall. Bass consistently focused on the city housing crisis with 45,000 people.
“Today, too many Angelenos have no choice but to crowd multiple families into one hom, and to work multiple jobs just to barely pay rent,” Bass said.
“Tragically, our city has earned the shameful crown as being home to the most crowded neighbourhoods in the nation – Pico-Union, South L.A., East L.A., the East Valley,” she added. “And Angelenos, we know our mission – we must build housing in every neighbourhood.”
To the people of our city, my message is this:
We are going to solve homelessness.
We are going to prevent and respond urgently to crime.
Our city is no longer going to be unaffordable for working families.

She gave priority after being mayor of homelessness. Because the price is so high, to afford a house for citizens is not an easy job. This is also a barrier to development. According to reports development is a 1.7% rise only. Bass is now planning for more than 15,000 houses by the end of the year with perfect funding. She planned to provide more resources for mental health services, and “neighbourhood service teams.”
Sworn as the sixth-term congresswoman Bass, said the reason behind the house loan crisis is her longtime relationship with lawmakers. But she promises to use her relationship with Biden to solve all the problems for federal house vouchers. For being a mayor she announced that she did everything that she could do.
“In our city’s 241-year history, we’ve never witnessed a day like today as Los Angeles came together to celebrate the swearing-in of Mayor Karen Bass,” said Mark Gonzalez, chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, in a statement. “Of course, we must stop crimes in progress and hold people accountable,” Bass said.
“Some neighbourhoods have asked for additional officers, and we will deliver. But what neighbourhoods are asking for and what they need is as diverse as our city.” Bass decided to set up 250 offices for patrolling in her region to stop crime and wanted to hire more. In 2004, when she was selected as a speaker for the first black woman, she create history.
After Bass, four other cities have black mayors that include Eric Adams of New York City, Lori Lightfoot of Chicago and Sylvester Turner of Houston.

“At the end of the day, it’s pretty clear the magnitude of some of the challenges we face require us to work at another level of collaboration and cooperation,” Newsom said. “So it’s in that spirit that brings me down.”
“I’m going to give her a big hug and say, ‘Now the work starts,’” Villaraigosa said.
