Today Channel 5 ordered the four-part drama Black Cab from Story Films and All3Media International for broadcast in 2023. Nick Saltrese (A Prayer Before Dawn) is the series’ screenwriter, and Diarmuid Goggins (Kin, Bulletproof, Witness No. 3) is the director. Black Cab a contemporary thriller set in Liverpool about a lone taxi driver’s increasing fascination with a late-night Radio DJ, was commissioned for Channel 5 by Paul Testar, commissioning editor, Drama, Channel 5 and Paramount+. Sam Tipper-Hale and David Nath of Story Films and David Collins of Samson Films are the executive producers.

Lead actor Robert Glenister (Sherwood, Spooks) depicts Liverpool taxi driver Tony, a former respected teacher who has lost his career, his confidence, and his marriage. Paul Testar, commissioning editor for drama at Channel 5 and Paramount+, says, “I’m really thrilled to be working with the wonderful team at Story Films, after the critically acclaimed Witness Number 3 earlier this year. Black Cab, with a stellar ensemble cast, is a great addition to Channel 5’s original drama lineup.
