Greg Lake is an English musician, singer and songwriter born on 10 November 1947. When he was 12 years old, Dorset native and lifelong resident Lake picked up a guitar and wrote his first song, “Lucky Man”. At the age of 17, he decided to pursue music full-time and after playing in a few bands his friend and fellow Dorset guitarist Robert Fripp asked him to be the band’s lead singer and bassist for King Crimson.
Their groundbreaking first album in the Court of the Crimson King was a commercial success. After leaving in 1970, Lake went on to have a hugely successful career as the singer, guitarist, bassist and producer for Emerson, Lake & Palmer throughout the 1970s. As a member of ELP, Lake wrote and recorded several popular songs including “Lucky Man” and “From the Beginning”. Their respective singles are charted in the United Kingdom and the United States.
