Beals made her name in Flashdance after appearing in a supporting role in the 1980 film My Bodyguard. Flashdance, the third highest-grossing American film of 1983, tells the story of Alex, a welder by day and sensual dancer by night who hopes to one day be accepted to a prestigious dance school.
