Fans of Nickelodeon and Disney will recognize both the main character and Capri. Riele Downs who is best known as Charlotte Page on the superhero comedy series Henry Danger plays Darby. Auli’i Cravalho who rose to fame after lending her voice to Disney’s smash hit Moana, plays Capri, the head cheerleader.

Cast of Darby and the Dead

How many other people are a part of Darby and the Dead? The entire cast is listed below.

Riele Downs as Darby Harper

The disappointing Darby and the Dead already engage in a double deception in one of the first lines spoken by the film’s protagonist, Riele Downs: “I see dead people….everywhere.” The first is that it gives a hint as to how it will riff on a film like The Sixth Sense by adding something to the end of the iconic line a young Haley Joel Osment said more than two decades ago.

It’s an old joke that the target audience might not get and it turns out to be just the beginning of the film’s meta-jokes. The second is that the incorporation of the word everywhere into the phrase makes it clear that the dead will play a significant role in what happens next.

This is shown at the beginning, where we see a young Darby Harper (Downs) rapidly develop her ability to communicate with the souls of the recently deceased. Darby and the Dead should have started into that other story we didn’t get to.

Darby and the Dead

Auli’i Cravalho as Capri

Darby Harper, the protagonist of Darby and the Dead has the ability to communicate with the dead after experiencing a near-death event as a child. Capri, the leader of the school’s most elite social group, tragically passes away in a hair-straightening accident forcing the cancellation of her upcoming “Sweet 17.”

However, Capri begs Darby to step in and convince Capri’s friends to keep the party going from the other side. Darby must come out of her self-imposed exile and reinvent herself to appease the undead diva, but in doing so, she discovers new joy in the world of the living.

Chosen Jacobs as Alex

Select Jacobs, I say yes! Playing Alex, who is allowed to be completely himself was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He accepts himself as if he is a human being having a human experience and nothing more. He actively engages in maximum effort. Never having been a mascot before, he did what any self-respecting newbie would do.

He researched the most successful mascots around the world and vowed to improve upon their designs. That’s something I feel our society could use more of. It’s acceptable to be mediocre. Try your best; failure is not fatal. As long as you are being genuine doing things that are out of the ordinary is fine. A happier atmosphere resulted, and he generally just seems more upbeat and optimistic.

Darby and the Dead

Asher Angel as James

James, Capri’s boyfriend is played by Asher Angel who becomes close with Darby after the death of his girlfriend. At the same time, Chosen Jacobs portrays Darby’s new love interest and school mascot, Alex. Although Angel has appeared in films like Shazam! and Driven to Dance, he is best known for his role as Jonah Beck on the Disney Channel series Andi Mack.

Jacobs has recently been seen in Sneakerella, a modern take on the Cinderella story, and in the eight-part podcast series Black Box. In an exclusive interview stars Asher Angel and Chosen Jacobs discuss some of their favorite moments from behind the scenes and how they managed to keep the film’s comedic tone while dealing with the serious subject of grief.

The local news reports that Piper, who is wearing a black veil and crying as she remembers her friend, Capri; that Capri was actually a Scorpio despite the fact that her full name was Capricorn.
