Slow Horses Season 2: Reviews

Those who are most wanted by the security services are based out of Slough House, which is run by renegade agent Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). The oddballs of MI5 band together to uncover the truth after the body of a former operative is discovered on a replacement bus.

It wasn’t the shocking conclusion to the season’s kidnapping case at the end of the six episodes which involved far-right terrorists but rather the reveal in the season finale via a surprise trailer that production on Season 2 had already begun. Eight months after our initial induction into Slough House we find ourselves back there, bumping into Jackson Lamb’s (Gary Oldman) group of hangdog snoopers once again also scruffy, just as ramshackle.

Slow Horses Season 2

The continuation of Will Smith’s not that one darkly comedic spy series is an adaptation of Mick Herron’s anti-Ludlum spy thrillers in which clandestine meetings typically take place during a fag-break by a Camden canal and rooftop chases in Tangiers are replaced by trips to the office.

After last year’s misleadingly high-stakes premiere this season’s second half begins as do all great series. Seeing a familiar face retired Cold War spy Dickie Bow (superb name, well-played by the ever-reliable Phil Davis) decides to follow him. Dickie has a heart attack and dies but his former handler, Lamb has a bad feeling about the whole thing.

Watch the Trailer of Slow Horses Season 2

As the official trailer for Season 2 of Slow Horses was released in October its central message that more people are going to die sums up the season’s story. This ominous promise should serve as a warning that the next season of the thrilling spy series will feature more bloodshed and fatalities.

The second season continues the story from the first maintaining the same tone and style. Dark, understated humor is kind of a signature of old man Lamb but it hasn’t yet rubbed off on his team member and there’s plenty of high-octane thrilling action, intense drama and suspense of a world-ending plot from enemy nations.

However, they are united in their determination to do what is necessary to save the day and restore their reputations within MI5, despite the fact that they have been publicly shamed by both their agency and the government.

High-level treason is hinted at in the trailer for Slow Horses Season 2 and it may be difficult for the Slough House team to crack it and confront it because of the stakes involved, both professionally and personally. We predicted this contemporary spy thriller series would be good back in April 2022 and the season two trailer confirms our prediction. If the previews are any indication, the new season will be action-packed.

What is the Story of Slow Horses Season 2?

Slow Horses Season 2

From where Season 1 left off, Season 2 of Slow Horses begins. The first season came to a climactic close with Lamb and his team regaining their good name as agents and attracting the attention of MI5’s higher-ups. As is his nature, Jackson Lamb appears content to resume his previous, mundane routine and encourage his fellow agents to do the same.

But it seems that problems always find a way to wiggle their way back into Slough House and start a new round of chaos. Agents, having experienced the thrill of solving a challenging problem, were no longer content to sit idle. So, when some long-buried Cold War secrets resurface and a group of Russian sleeper agents is reactivated, residents of Slough House worry that London and possibly the rest of the world are in danger. They need to get their heads back in the game and act quickly to prevent a major disaster.

Frequently Asked

Will there be Season 3 of Slow Horses?

It certainly will! When Apple TV+ first launched in September, it was announced that the original series Slow Horses would be renewed for a third and fourth season.

This was a huge vote of confidence from the streaming service, coming a little over a month after the season 1 finale had been posted on the platform and before the previously green-lit season 2 had even launched.

The third season is currently being filmed, so we may see it on our screens before the end of 2023.
