Published first in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998, Shaman King has been a fan favorite ever since. A publication of the manga in 2009 revealed a “real conclusion,” but the show was canceled suddenly in 2004.

Before losing the license, Viz Media published 32 volumes of the original Shaman King manga between 2003 and 2011. Initially, the manga rights in Japan were owned by Shueisha. The entirety of Shaman King is being released digitally in English by Comixology Originals and Kodansha USA Publishing.

In 2001 and 2002, a television animation based on the main manga was broadcast. In April of 2021, a new anime debuted that was based on the manga’s newly collected 35-volume run. The anime series was made available on Netflix to be viewed around the world beginning in August of that year. There are 52 episodes in the anime.

Also available in English from Kodansha USA Publishing are the spin-off manga titles Shaman King: Zero, Shaman King Flowers, Shaman King: Red Crimson, and Shaman King: Super Star.
